Dorothy Reis, Owner/Operator of Island Ground Designs is a long-time resident of Vancouver Island. In 1996, she graduated with distinction, from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Langley Campus (The BC Horticulture Centre), with a diploma in Horticulture Technology, specializing in Landscape Design, Installation and Maintenance. In the summer of 1996, Dorothy started her landscape design business and hasn't looked back. In the spring of 1998, Dorothy passed the exam which qualified her as an ISA Certified Arborist and has kept her certification current since that time.
Dorothy was the designer of the Toby Jackson Therapeutic Garden at Saint Mary's Hospital in New Westminster. She has designed and installed the Special Care Garden at Echo Village (a multi-care facility) and the gardens at Kackaamin Family Development Centre, both in Port Alberni. She was a volunteer member of the Design Guideline Review Committee for the City of Port Alberni and has been an instructor for the Parks and Recreation workshop Landscaping Your Home. Dorothy's favourite designs are residential and her plans for the future are to design and educate while making local gardens more aesthetically pleasing.
